They say the bitter makes the sweet sweeter. So, one night, as I sat thinking about what I long for I also thought about the things I appreciate having. This lead me to write the following. This is a poem about my best friend. It is a very personal poem, so I'm not going to completely explain it. But let's just say it tells why we came to be best friends.
"Friend & Muse"
Brought to me by
Tragedy...
As we stood in the
Boatman's wake,
Coin spent & fare paid for an
Early crossing,
We shared
A cloak of
Despair,
Which was woven by
Two sets of hands,
And we sought refuge,
From our
Separate storms,
Beneath the cloak,
As we held
One another close,
To keep warm,
In the Cold
Violence of the
Storms
We lead
One another to the
Storms' eyes,
While
Our worlds
Were made
One
By a soldier who
Watched from the
Past
...A shared
Sadness
Sewed seeds that enabled
Us to harvest
An eternal bond,
forged & cast by
Bitter sweet emotions &
Father Time's
Embrace,
Which will
Hold me to her
Till the
Boatman returns
For one of us.
