"Denise"

This past weekend I took a big step forward, as an artist, by giving my homie Frank a memorial tattoo to remember his daughter's mom who passed away a few years ago. We had talked about it a few weeks back at our friend Diego's birthday party, and he decided to be the first person (besides myself) who I would tat up. I drew up a couple of sketches for him and e-mailed them to him to approve. The final design was agreed on & this past weekend I inked his right calf with her name. It was the first of a couple of sessions that we are going to have to do, in order to get all the color & highlights done, but the outline is finished & healing now. He explained that this was a very important tattoo to him, and that it meant a great deal to him because of what she meant to him & his little girl. He texted me later in the night, after I finished the outline, and told me that he was very happy & that it was the most important tattoo that he has (and he has quite a few)! Being a single dad myself, it came to mean a lot to me too, for obvious reasons. Also, though, it was my first time giving a tat, & a very sentimental tat to him, so it was very important to me that he was happy with it. I was honored that he not only trusted me enough to let me ink him up, but he also trust me with such an important & meaningful tattoo. Here are some of the pics that we took. There will be more once it is finished, but this is the sketch & outline for now...

Skin & ink...

Still learning the art of tattooing... Started tattoo #2, instead of finishing tattoo #1, this week. Still have a lot of work to do on both, but here is where I am so far...

Another round of playin' catch-up...

Sorry for the stagnate blog, been practicing my alchemy and hunting for the goose that lays golden eggs. So, once again I have fallen behind on posting. Got lots to share, but not a lot of time to blog about it, unfortunately. Time will be made, this week, though, to get some new music, images, and poems posted. Please check back soon. In the mean time, here are some pics I've been meaning to put up...

Been learning to tattoo lately.

...and practicing drawing, a lot, too. I spent a lot of time sketching and trying to decide what I was going to tattoo on myself, after deciding that the first tattoo I was going to get would also be the first tattoo I would do.

...and somewhere along the line, in all my excitement, I got so impatient and eager to tattoo myself that I just reached over and did this to my ankle....

After freestyling a "L" and an "A" on my ankle, like a dumb-ass, I came up with this sketch to "finish" what I started. Still working on it, but I am hoping to have some pics of the finished tat posted by the end of the week.

Been busy, but I had to take a day to go and enjoy summer in Cali, at the beach, with my little girl. Her karate school, the House of Champions, had a family beach day, so I took a day off to go soak up some sun with my lil' Champ...

... and build Maya temples for plastic dinosaurs to live on. lol.

Haven't been showing my art much, lately, but I made it out to the Airliner again, last night, for the Art & Music show. A couple of good friends, Mold & Tina, also showed some paintings (but I didn't get the best of pictures for some reason.???).

Mold's cuisine's band, DSOM, rocked the second floor with some good punk, also. Check them out at differentstateofmind

It was another fun Monday night, with a bunch of good friends, at the Airliner, to wrap up the Labor Day weekend.

Tattoo time...

I'm super excited! I finally did something I have been thinking about doing for a long time. I've had a lot of people tell me I should do tattoos, and after hearing it enough times, I started thinking about actually doing it a few years ago. After a lot of deliberation, procrastination, and shopping around on line, I finally found a place, in China town, that sells tattoo guns & supplies. However, on my way to out to China Town, yesterday, I stopped by the record store to pick up a few new things. I told the homie that works at the shop, Camel, that I was going to buy a gun in China Town and he told me about a place in North Hollywood were his tattoo artist gets his supplies. I went and checked the place out and came home with everything I needed to start doin' up my feet and legs! lol. And, I already have a couple of brave friends who are going to let me hook them up too!

...Still haven't had a chance to figure out what I want to do about the music upload situation, but I've got a pile of new records that will make up a very sick pair of mixes! One grimy Dub-Step mix and a DnB mix that crosses the gambit of flavors. I'll have those up this week, for those that want some heavy bass in their lives!
