Random images from the weekend

Just a few pics I took this weekend at another club/art show...

I didn't sell anything, but I brought home a new piece to add to my art collection, a print by Emmanuel Lemus.

Sunday night, it was back to work...

In My Craft or Sullen Art

The header on this blog says "my stories told with the help of my art, photography, poetry, and music..." but there isn't much poetry on here, so I want to share one of my all time favorite poems. This poem is for all us artist that do what we do for the love of it. Can't take credit for writing this, unfortunately. It was written by Dylan Thomas, one of my favorite poets, and it's pretty deep. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and find the same inspiration in it that I did!

In my Craft or Sullen Art

In my craft or sullen art

Exercised in the still night

When only the moon rages

And the lovers lie abed

With all their griefs in their arms,

I labour by singing light

Not for ambition or bread

Or the strut and trade of charms

On the ivory stages

But for the common wages

Of their most secret heart.

Not for the proud man apart

From the raging moon I write

On these spindrift pages

Nor for the towering dead

With their nightingales and psalms

But for the lovers, their arms

Round the griefs of the ages,

Who pay no praise or wages

Nor heed my craft or art.

Tattoo time...

I'm super excited! I finally did something I have been thinking about doing for a long time. I've had a lot of people tell me I should do tattoos, and after hearing it enough times, I started thinking about actually doing it a few years ago. After a lot of deliberation, procrastination, and shopping around on line, I finally found a place, in China town, that sells tattoo guns & supplies. However, on my way to out to China Town, yesterday, I stopped by the record store to pick up a few new things. I told the homie that works at the shop, Camel, that I was going to buy a gun in China Town and he told me about a place in North Hollywood were his tattoo artist gets his supplies. I went and checked the place out and came home with everything I needed to start doin' up my feet and legs! lol. And, I already have a couple of brave friends who are going to let me hook them up too!

...Still haven't had a chance to figure out what I want to do about the music upload situation, but I've got a pile of new records that will make up a very sick pair of mixes! One grimy Dub-Step mix and a DnB mix that crosses the gambit of flavors. I'll have those up this week, for those that want some heavy bass in their lives!

Catching up...

Sorry for the pause in posts... I took a break after a busy June, and now I'm playing catch up. I wanted to post a new mix, but the file sharing site that I use changed their whole site up! So, after a while of trying to figure out the "new" site, I gave up on trying to figure out how to access my mixes and links. That means no new music for now, but it's coming! I will have some new mixes up by the end of the weekend... For now, though, back to the art... I ended June with the Art & Chocolate show. A great time, in Mid-city L.A....

Started July off by putting together a one-night show with a group of friends. This was the first time I was put in charge of a show and, with the help of my good friends Mehdi & Mold, we put together a good little show. Good enough, in fact, to get the promoter of the club to agree to let my friends & I take over coordinating the art show on the 1st Monday of every month. Here are some pics from the Art & Music show on 7/5...

 & more Mold & moi...

8/2 will be our next show at the Airliner, hopefully each gets better than the last.

A few days after the Airliner show, the L.A. art walk went down. I didn't have any work displayed this art walk, but I had several friends showing art at the Bang gallery on Spring St. It was like a gallery/sauna! We couldn't stay inside for too long, since the heat and the crowd were both a little too much for my daughter & I. We took a quick tour of the gallery, before heading for the door to get some fresh air, and took these pics along the way...

The Art Walk was a lot of fun, and the food, off the trucks, was amazing! If you haven't been... Check out the L.A. City Art Walk, in Downtown Los Angeles.

Till the next show, I'm back to work...

...and, like I said, the music is on it's way!
