Teaching art

Hi! Thanks for checkin' out Bsombin'! As a parent, I think it is important to be a part of our kids education, as much as possible. Over the years, I have spent a bit of time volunteering in my daughters classes. Last year I decided to offer my services as an artist, since my daughter's school doesn't have an art program. I have helped a lot of people learn to draw and paint, through out my life. But, I had never taught a class, until then. I worked together with the teacher to put together lessons for the kids & I went & taught the kids several times through out the school year. It was a wonderful learning experience for me, as well as a really good time! I had a lot of fun, learned a lot, taught a lot, & I showed my little artist how important her education is to me. This year I am back to teaching my daughter's 5th grade class. Her teacher is super cool & has been a pleasure to work with. I've been given a lot more freedom to make my own lesson plans, this year, so it's been a little more challenging for me as a teacher. But, my daughter's teacher is very helpful & even finds ways to get extra supplies, so we can do more things like paint! So far, we've had a hand full of lessons & a lot of fun. Recently I taught them a lesson on color theory and I talked to them about the color wheel & complimentary colors. The teacher was able to get watercolor paints for the whole class, so we were able to make it a painting lesson as well. I decided to photo document some of my teaching experience, when we came up with the lesson plan. Here are images of the color wheel I drew up for them (the teacher made copies to hand out to the class, so all the kids could have one to keep), the example painting I did to teach the lesson with, & some of the class' finished paintings. I'll be posting more of my student's work, as the year continues, as well as pics from the field trips the class has planned. Check back soon for more work from myself & my little artist friends!
